So, there is a character invented by Douglas Adams, who is a Rain God. (um, the character, not Mr. Adams.) Everywhere he goes, it rains. I'm beginning to feel a little bit like that. Again.

Blue sky, warm temperature. I decide to carry my just-dried laundry out to the car. It starts to sprinkle. Sky is still blue, no clouds immediately overhead, but it sprinkles. I put the laundry into the car, go back in the house, and the sprinkles stop. I spend a little more time with the critters and then decide to head for home. As I pull out of the driveway, it starts to sprinkle. Not much, but enough that I have to flick on the windshield wipers every once in a while. Now I'm back home, inside the apartment --- and the rain has stopped.

I caused it to rain yesterday, too, when I went to check my mailbox. I think I should hire myself out for parties and events. Pay me enough, and I won't show up and cause it to rain! :-)

Mr Piggy

still needs to have his front feet attached, but I decided to add a picture of him anyway. It isn't a very good picture, and I'll try to add some better ones to my knitting pics folder, but here he is!
So, what do you think of the new title for my blog? It is the name (and spelling) that my son set up for my DSL account, and I liked it. I know, there isn't enough about knitting on here to have a knit-related title, but since it is my blog I decided "What the heck, I can call it what I want." and changed the title. So there.

Not much going on this past week. I've got my place all fixed up and I think it looks really nice. I still have to bring at least one more bookcase, and more books, my cedar chest and my Survivor sign. Still not sure where to hang the sign, although I'm kinda leaning towards putting it on the large wall in the bedroom. I'll wait until after I decide for sure before getting a new bedspread, so it doesn't clash.

I bought a really nice area rug for the living room; it really brightens up the room. Everything was so beige that I decided to add the rug (plus, it will keep the carpet in front of the couch nice and clean). No, that isn't my living room; it's from the ad for Wal-Mart. You can click on the picture to make it larger (and less fuzzy). I also got a small rug for the kitchen sink area. The place is starting to feel like home.

Well, I should probably get my day going. Need to go visit the critters, and make a trip to Borders. Bye for now.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I had a great time on Saturday. For the most part, it was just S, CZ and me. CZ is really sweet, outgoing and very enthusiastic about learning to knit. Felt like I'd known her for ages. Duh came over later in the afternoon and did most of the sewing part of my purple piggy. He just needs to have his front feet and facial features added. That means I have to decide what I want to do for his facial features. I'm thinking about black button eyes and a big pink button nose.

The Kids came by after their Wilderness Training seminar and C tried to get my DSL hooked up, but Verizon doesn't have me set up properly yet. Maybe today ...

My FIL called yesterday, and invited me to come out and spend a week with them since I'm not working. I know they are lonely, and missing Joe, but I just can't do that. I really need to find a job since my unemployment runs out soon. I need to make a point to keep in better contact with them, though.

Hm, it sounds (and smells) like the coffee is ready!

Got a Fun Day Planned

My sister and a couple of other ladies are coming over tomorrow for a "knitting day". I'm so excited -- it'll be my first little party! I've already baked cookies, mixed up onion dip and made a spaghetti salad. S is going to bring little sandwiches and her co-worker, C, is bring sodas. I also expect Duh to show up, and P will be over later in the day. I invited C from work, but I don't think she'll make it. That would mean that she finally has to learn to knit ... after mentioning it for a couple of years.

The Direct TV guys were here today, so I am all set up with that. F had hooked up an antenna for me last night (the cable went off on Tuesday. Not unexpectedly, since I hadn't ordered it.) It worked pretty well, actually, and I was able to watch tv today before the guys got here. However, it is SO much nicer having a clean, clear picture!

I also received an email notification that my DSL is ready for hookup. I sent an email to C to see if he can maybe come over this weekend and get it set up for me. I guess I can try and do it myself; but he might not like that (if I mess it up).

Anyway, that's it for now ........

Piggy Update

Well, I have all the parts knitted for my little purple piggy. All I have to do is buy the stuffing (no, not Stovetop!) and get him stuffed and stitched together. He is going to be absolutely adorable. And I still have some of the larger ball of yarn left over, and all of the smaller ball! Wonder what I should make next ....

And Another One's Gone

... another one bites the dust ...

I have exploded two - count 'em, two - diet soda cans in my fridge. Good thing it is a small fridge, because it makes a heck of a mess to have to clean up! It also makes a very loud, scary noise. Fortunately, these have happened during daytime hours and not while I'm sleeping. Hopefully I've got the temp adjusted correctly this time. Keep your fingers crossed!

Just a Short Update

since it's been so long ....

I'm in my new place, and it is starting to take shape as "home". I've got some pictures up, but not all since I"m not positive about furniture placements staying as they are. My Direct TV and DSL should be hooked up and running by the middle of next week. Still sorting through books and stuff at the house, although I'm doing it slowly. Just don't want to give up any of the books, although I've been saying for quite some time that I need to weed out some of the ones I know I won't re-read.

Duh was over tonight; we had pizza and salad and watched the first round of auditions for this season of "American Idol". Had a nice visit, and made fun of some of the singers.

Job interview in the morning, so I'm going to sleep now. Will try to update again soon, but since I'm "dependent on the kindness of strangers" for my internet right now, we'll see how it goes.

Lousy Vampires

What an ordeal. Sat and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally they tried to get the blood from the back of my right hand. (usually the best spot) Tried again. Poked and prodded and tourniquetted and patted and got someone else. Tried the right inner elbow and the back of the left hand. Asked the doctor to try. Waited again. He finally was able to get blood from the right wrist on the thumb side. So, five new holes later, and a trip to Vons, I'm back home. I don't understand why it is always so difficult to get blood out of me. I mean, while the doctor was getting the blood, he was squeezing my forearm and practically wringing the blood out like water from a dishrag. Not that I know what a dishrag is .... heehee!

Anyway, I'm home and relaxing wi
th my Starbucks mocha frappuccino. Hopefully I'll be able to knit today, with all the holes they poked in me. My hand is sore!

It Never Fails

So, they always tell me I don't have to fast for blood work for my thyroid. I always do anyway, just in case. Today, I ate. They want to check cholesterol, too, so they didn't take the blood. Sat at the doctor's office for an hour and a half just to tell the doctor I need refills and have him authorize the blood work. *sigh* He did give me a prescription, but I have to go back after fasting. I'll probably go on Saturday morning.
